Prellin Chetty

Founder & Director — CPA

Prellin is a CPA with 26 years in the profession, a Registered Company Auditor and a Registered Tax Agent. He founded Alternative Accounting in 2016 and runs it as a boutique practice — which means that when you engage the firm, you work directly with him, not a rotating team.

His career spans both sides of the ledger. Before establishing the practice he was Audit Manager for a mid-tier firm in Sydney, and his earlier experience includes audit work with KPMG in South Africa and roles with revenue authorities in two countries — the South African Revenue Service and Inland Revenue New Zealand. That breadth shapes how he reads an organisation's numbers today.

The practice serves a broad mix of clients — small businesses, companies, trusts, self-managed super funds and individuals — across financial reporting, income tax, BAS, advisory and the everyday accounting that keeps an organisation steady and compliant. Not-for-profit and ACNC audit is a particular specialism, and one Prellin is known for — but it sits alongside a full general accounting and tax practice, not in place of one.

Where it began

Why this practice exists.

Alternative Accounting began not with a business plan, but with a question.

In 2016, the passing of Prellin's father became a profound turning point. In the quiet that followed, one question came into clear focus — what is this work truly for, and who should it serve?

That question became the practice. Prellin stepped away from conventional accounting to build something aligned with a deeper conviction: that accounting can serve people and purpose, and that the choice of whose work to support is one worth making with intention.

It was the beginning of a more conscious, more considered way of living and working — one rooted in service, and still at the heart of Alternative Accounting a decade on.

In practical terms it is less abstract than it sounds: it simply means weighing the work we take on, and the advice we give, by who it ultimately serves.
